Announcing The Return of Cruising

May 2021 Cruise

In anticipation of the winding down of the battle with COVID, the Tucson Sailing Club is starting to plan for the return of cruising in the Sea of Cortez. We have a regatta scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, May 29 and 30, 2021.  So, following tradition, we will have a cruise starting Monday, May 31, 2021, the day after the regatta. Since June can be a pretty hot month in the Sea of Cortez, we are planning to head north up the coast from San Carlos to the Midriff Islands. This area tends to stay cooler a little bit longer than the middle part of the Sea.

The cruisers will go up the coast for a few days before taking the long haul to Dog Bay on Isla Tiburón and then island hopping across to Baja. Generally, a cruise to the Midriff Islands would span about 10 to 14 days, allowing for weather issues. For those who are unable to commit that much time to a cruise, please join in on the early part of the cruise to the north anchorages on the coast.

More details of this cruise will be posted in the coming weeks.

Shake Out Cruise – March 2021

Do you want to participate in the May cruise but are unsure you are ready?

Are you concerned that your anchor will not hold?

Are you having doubts that your recently renovated boat will hold together?

Are you not sure you can open your engine through hull?

Why not do a test cruise in March 2021 to allay your fears?

Some worried cruisers are tentatively planning to spend a couple days cruising to the anchorages around San Carlos and Guaymas. These anchorages are quiet, secure, and only a few hours from the two San Carlos marinas.  This mini-cruise will be a great way to test out your appetite for cruising and your boat’s readiness.
