Phoenix resident Doug Kelch has raced and cruised a wide variety of sailboats for over a half century. He has logged more pocket cruising miles than just about anyone we know........... Doug will discuss pocket cruising and sail camping, boats for pocket cruising, gear and equipment, seamanship skills needed, pocket cruising destinations, and great cruising right here in Arizona. He has sailed a variety of pocket cruisers up and down the east coast, the west coast, and throughout Arizona. He might mention his Race Committee duties in past years at Lake Havasu.
Doug has lived in Phoenix for the past 10 years. He started sailing at the age of 20. For five years, Doug was an instructor at the Sailing Club of Washington. He also worked two sessions as a seamanship facilitator for renowned small boat mariner Howard Rice. Doug’s sailing credentials include racing an Interlake for two years, and a Sunfish for three years, including competing in the Sunfish Nationals. He also crewed for a year aboard a Snipe.
This presentation will ignite the TSC overdue pocket cruising group of Santana's, Montgomery's, and MacGregors...
Please get to Brother Johns early for eats and socialization. This inside room has a high grade air purification system and deemed Covid free. Masks are required during entry. No zoom access yet a recording may be available after the meeting in the near future.
Monthly club meetings are be held at Brother John's BBQ at 1801 N Stone Ave (the old Wildcat House location). Happy hour prices will extend to 7:00 PM for TSC members so come early for dinner and drinks. $2 beers (10 oz only) for the whole evening!
